While it\u2019s easy to love them, it can be hard to understand them. Let\u2019s dispel some of the biggest cat myths that we\u2019ve heard throughout the years:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cats are low-maintenance pets. <\/strong>Sadly, many owners still believe that cats require less veterinary care, fewer vaccinations, and no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayoaksanimalhospital.com\/blog\/itch-itch-scratch-scratch\/\">preventive care for parasites <\/a>or dental disease than their canine counterparts. This myth stands in the way of achieving optimal feline wellness and should never be accepted as truth. It\u2019s just as important to schedule annual regular wellness care for your cats to keep them healthy for as long as possible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cats prefer quiet, solitary lives. <\/strong>In fact, cats enjoy, and benefit from, the company of other cats, dogs, and people (although the introductory period can take some time). Prioritizing socialization for cats is essential to their mental and emotional well-being.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cats only purr when content. <\/strong>While cats do purr when they\u2019re happy, they <em>also<\/em> purr as a way to soothe themselves. Pain, discomfort, fear, and stress can all lead a cat to purr, and can clue an owner into what\u2019s going on beneath the surface.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cats love to drink milk. <\/strong>They may enjoy the beverage, but due to their inability to digest it, cats really shouldn\u2019t drink milk.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cats always land on their feet. <\/strong>It is true that they can correct their body\u2019s positioning during a fall, cats can still get gravely injured if their environment or surroundings aren\u2019t secured.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Misleading Canine Myths<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Now let\u2019s take a look at some of the biggest myths about dogs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Dogs can heal open wounds on humans by licking them. <\/strong>Dogs may enjoy this experience, but because of the prevalence of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.broadwayoaksanimalhospital.com\/services\/dental.html\">oral bacteria<\/a>, dog saliva should be kept away from open wounds.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dogs cannot see in color. <\/strong>There is a common myth that dogs are completely colorblind. With dichromatic vision, dogs can actually see a range of blue and yellow hues.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A healthy dog has a cold, wet nose. <\/strong>Canine health isn\u2019t measured by the look and feel of the nose. While a healthy dog <em>can <\/em>have a cold, wet nose, dogs with certain medical conditions can, too.
